Offline events like trade shows are highly anticipated growth opportunities for professionals in your industry. Demo your latest product at an appropriate conference and collect signups in-person. Once you're back at the office, import these signups into your contact database. Be sure to send these contacts a welcome email that confirms their opt-in to your list. I created the LIST LOVE master course because I’ve been where you are. So let me tell you my story. I started my DIY & Craft Blog (JenniferMaker.com) in October 2016. My first three months of blogging were a long, slow slog. I struggled to get posts out because it seemed like there was SO much to do—research ideas, photograph projects, edit photos, write posts, make promotional images, actually promote my posts. Ugh! Sometimes I wasn't sure what to even write about, and it was so hard to get people to visit my blog. I was doing ALL THE THINGS, but my growth was really, really slow.
If you decided that you want to buy 2,512,596 visitors, it would cost you $125,629.80 if you paid 5 cents a visitor. If you bought 41,142 links from a service like Sponsored Reviews at a rate of $20 a link, you would have spent $822,840. And that wouldn’t even give you high quality links. We naturally got our links from sites like Huffington Post and Forbes.”
Your blog or website is your canvas to play on in the first place. Think of all the places you can put and include a lead magnet CTA that is meaningful and noninvasive. From email subscriptions to various opt-ins, free offers somewhere in the posts, to Tell-A-Friend CTA, exit pop-ups and live chat plugins. Each of these tactics has only one goal – to collect emails, so unleash your creativity and think of the ways to use them throughout your site.

I’ll never forget the fun we had at those NFL celebrations at Regent Street in London, a couple of years back. My sister and I took part in a couple of games, one of which required yelling some American Football words at the top of our voices, and our mum was certain we were going to nail this. Sure this sounds supportive, but our mum’s focus was on “yelling”. Joke’s on her, we failed miserably (…we only caught “quarterback” out of all the words).
Topical trends: See if there is a trend across these posts that make for a singular topic. Unrelated blog posts might still have a connection. For example, on my personal blog, two high-traffic posts have to deal with customer service issues with Dell and Verizon. They are unrelated except that they indicate people are looking for help in dealing with large corporations when they are frustrated. That trend could be a topic. What topics are people reading that are related on your blog?
It used to be you would have only one lead magnet on your site and that was sufficient. However, today your content and nurture sequence need to be highly relevant to the exact solution the person is actively looking for. By creating a content upgrade that is specific to a highly-targeted piece of content that is getting lots of attention helps you to raise that relevancy and turn more visitors into email subscribers.”
This reaction is rare with an email autoresponder course. Even though they’ll be added to your general email list, they still expect to get emails from you and are more receptive to all of the email you send. They get used to seeing your emails come in through your email autoresponder course; your other emails arriving to their inbox are no big deal.
Don’t read everything at once. There is a lot of great information in here, but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed after reading through all of the content in one sitting. Instead, take incremental steps. For example, if you want to find out where or how to ask people for their emails on your site, read the content in chapter 2. Implement it, then come back later for the next steps.

Just like with website copy, you can create a number of variants for your popup, contact form or contest banner, and then test each individual part, like the color of the call-to-action button, text or image, and then see which combination is producing the best results. This way, you can create the most effective forms that will convert many visitors into leads. You can easily set up Optimizely on your website by adding a piece of code to it.
A useful footer. Below your main content is the footer of your email. It should contain a clear and simple way for your reader to unsubscribe, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act. Mention why they are getting the email (they signed up), and how to contact you. Email apps often take care of this for you, but just be sure it is included. The footer area is where you could do “self-advertising” if you wanted to. Keep it simple, if you choose to do it, preferably just one or two “ads” or links.
