“I was slowly growing my list since I started my blog in 2016 but it was pretty slow and sporadic. I started List Love not knowing what to really expect. Jennifer was using craft templates and tutorials as her blog's opt-ins and I didn’t know if that would translate to my niche of starting a business. I am so glad I took the chance! Not only is Jennifer an excellent teacher but her technique translates to any niche. With the help of List Love, I have quadrupled my list in the last four months [from 1000 to 4000 subscribers] and it is growing every day!”
If you choose a product everybody wants - like an iPad or an Amazon gift card - then you’re risking driving unqualified leads to your list. You don’t want to end up having to pay to have a bunch of unengaged people on your email list who aren’t interested in your topic and who will just unsubscribe the second you send them the next email and they haven’t won the giveaway.
The content that goes to your email list should be a step above any other content you’re giving. The reason is that these are people who have expressed interest in you and your offerings already, or who have bought from you. Therefore, the content should be more targeted based on how they got on the list, and more valuable since you know who you’re creating it for and why.
Using an autoresponder to set up your email opt-in form also gives you the option of setting up a double or single opt-in. Again, the double opt-in is where your new subscriber must confirm his/her email address. This simple option can show up as either an email asking the subscriber to confirm their subscription or as a CAPTCHA code that pops up. Again, this goes a long way towards weeding out fake emails.
"Jennifer's course was exactly what I needed to start growing my email list. When I started her course, I had fewer than 30 random subscribers. Now my list is at 3,500 and it's growing every day. What's even better is that Jennifer teaches you how to build a targeted list with different opt-in forms so you know how people came to your blog and what they're interested in.
A useful footer. Below your main content is the footer of your email. It should contain a clear and simple way for your reader to unsubscribe, as required by the CAN-SPAM Act. Mention why they are getting the email (they signed up), and how to contact you. Email apps often take care of this for you, but just be sure it is included. The footer area is where you could do “self-advertising” if you wanted to. Keep it simple, if you choose to do it, preferably just one or two “ads” or links.
When I'm not designing websites, doing this online marketing stuff or writing. I love nothing more than getting out on a weekend and scuba diving. I'm a qualified rescue diver and love getting wet in the waters around Perth and Rottenest Island. I also cycle, which must be a sight as I'm not the thinnest of people (lol)... and a paddle on a kayak or a swim helps makes most weeks, perfect. At home I have a marine reef tank, which I just love and on top of that I've an awesome dog, called Ziggy.
Introductions and prefaces. Creating new copy to put each blog post into context helps make individual posts seem to be part of a cohesive whole. The new copy helps frame the blog post so that it fits with the rest. For some of our email courses, we’ve written a preface, a summation of the previous lesson, and even a bit of a teaser that hints at what the next lesson will bring. That little bit of extra fresh and new copy helps your email autoresponder course feel less like you’re just spitting out old blog posts.
Search terms: You can find out the specific terms people are using to find your site, which will help you decide what the most popular topics for your readers are. However, Google searches are increasingly not providing the specific search terms that they used to, going with “not provided” instead, so this ability may decrease in the future (at least with the Google search engine).
Contests and freebies are great tools to gather emails from your audience. Who doesn’t like something for free, right? Just like in a landing page example below, it can be anything from ebooks, whitepapers, to actual products or services you can give for free. Just like with website copy, you can create a number of variants for your popup, contact form or contest banner, and then test each individual part, like the color of the call-to-action button, text or image, and then see which combination is producing the best results. This way, you can create the most effective forms that will convert many visitors into leads. You can easily set up Optimizely on your website by adding a piece of code to it.

At the start of my online career i used to think that list building has no benefits but after doing some research on the topic and starting with the link building thing i came to knew it’s importance. It’s really necessary for website and blog owners to build lists or they’ll just let their selves down because list building is the game changer when Search Engines and Social Media doesn’t work for you.
